2027 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge

Leading subteams developing a custom battery-powered rover for NASA's College/University Remote-Controlled Division. The vehicle must meet strict size, weight, and speed limits while navigating simulated lunar terrain.

Our work also includes an onboard system that decodes NASA radio commands to operate a camera, capture target images, and report distances without pilot intervention, followed by systems and safety validation.

Embedded Instrumentation System

NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) · University of Central Missouri. Led the Electrical and Programming subteams to a first-place national finish in the 2026 College/University Division.

Designed a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W system for real-time environmental sensing and telemetry. Integrated soil-moisture, pH, and CO₂ sensors over BLE telementary; developed MicroPython firmware for synchronized polling; Validated integration and performance, including a four-day runtime test.
